the australian gardener’s plight: constant drought

with huge areas of seriously dry ecosystems, much of australia has restrictions on the use of water.  regular watering of gardens and lawns is frowned upon by many people in australia and is even prohibited in some areas, while highly restricted in others.  depending on the city and state, severe fines are often imposed upon residents for watering lawns or gardens during certain hours, or even at all.  melbourne is also considering putting  limits on the total amount of water each household is permitted to use per month, which would make people seriously rethink their water-use habits.

so, what’s a gardener to do?

well, deb, like a growing number of australians and californians, uses three methods of water conservation to keep her garden alive and her conscience guilt free.
